Elementary

Our students from 6th grade are currently working on the Inquiry Unit “How we express ourselves”; they created their own measuring tools using fractions of a meter and then proceeded to measure several architectural elements.
Our students from 5th Grade worked on the same unit with a different task. Creating a Museum, in which they represented in different ways the timeline from prehistoric ages to recent times. Using arts in general such as music, paintings, sculptures and technology where all of our students participated with excitement. They investigated and chose the sculptures and music that represented each time period and presented their work to all the Elementary groups in the school.

IB PYP Programme

Our challenges and accomplishments in the implementation of the PYP

On June 2nd and 3rd we had a visit from our consultant Carlos Ogno who is an IB educator and has been with Camino for the past two years through the PYP IB Implementation process.
During the consultation visit, our general director, school coordinators (Kindergarten and Elementary), all of the PYP Teachers and a group of parents had the opportunity to interview with Mr. Ogno to better understand the challenges, accomplishments and perspectives implementing this program.
The result of these meetings and class visits comprises the preliminary report for the PYP coordinator Gustavo Mejia, to plan and accompany the implementation of relevant actions that will allow us to face the verification visit and to obtain the authorization as an IB school.
Here are some comments from our Mr. Ogno:

– A gradual change is observed in school educational practice.
– During this school year all of the PYP grades have developed their unit plans according to their grade and the school has a complete inquiry program.
– There is a positive school environment in which students and teachers are close to each other.
– Students are familiar with the attributes of the community learning profile.
– Teachers recognize that collaborative work facilitates the implementation of the program and helps them discover other approaches in the development of teaching and learning.
Our challenges:
– Accompany teachers in understanding the constructivist approach to ensure that learning experiences where the student is the principal agent of learning are developed.
– As part of the continuous improvement process, review our program of inquiry in order to ensure appropriate learning of students according to their school grade.
– Reflect on the process of mathematics instruction and incorporate other forms of teaching and resources enabling students to focus their learning in understanding.
– Share with parents workshops about profile attributes and units of inquiry that children develop, in order to continue the learning process at home.
These are some challenges and accomplishments that we want to share with you, we are positive that working together will soon give Colegio El Camino the status of First PYP School in the Baja California Sur.
During this time, students and teachers have many learning experiences; here is what our teachers think about it.

Psychology

Closing cycles, to keep growing
We must know when a cycle is completed, when it´s time to close a door, finish a chapter or say good bye; it doesn´t matter what name we use for it, what matters is that we leave in the past the moments of life that have already concluded and continue to further growth. When we insist on extending more than necessary, we lose the joy and meaning of the other stages we have to live.kinder

New events will come and no one can live in the past and present, not even when trying to understand what happened. The past will never come back; we cannot be children forever because we will lose precious moments in life.

It is always good to think about the things learnt along the way and use them with a positive attitude to forge the future, achieving personal and family goals.

With every school year culmination we are reminded where are our children going, this is how cycles are closed, our little ones from kindergarten feel happy because they feel older and bigger, without fear because they enjoy the present, parents should share that joy and remain calm while looking at the future. Parents will reminiscence the first day of school and their children so small and fragile carrying that enormous back pack, that back pack will become even bigger as they advance to Elementary. Now, play time and duty times will be enforced, they will have to spend more time on school projects and you might think this will be insane, but really it´s time for your child to shine feeling unbeatable and brave as he/she will now attend the grown-ups school.

Elementary and Middle School students will also close a chapter on their life; parents will miss theirPrepa children requesting help to perform a task or homework, as they are now older and will go through several changes in their personalities.

High School students will leave their parents, continuing in life with their suitcases full of optimism and learning that their parents, school, family and friends have left in their lives. They will all reach their personal goals; they are all winners, perhaps at moments they´ll feel lost, but they´ll learn to solve their own problems and they will soon be in a new stage with the same optimism and joy.
Mom & Dad, please enjoy every moment in the life of your children, spend quality time together, don´t think about the future- think about today.

“…Give your child a smile when they wake up, when their clothes do not match, when they want to help in the kitchen, when they ask to play with you for a while, when they ask for you to read them a story, just for today…”
