About Us

Colegio El Camino is a Private K-12, non sectarian, nonprofit organization civil association governed by a permanent board of governors made up by members of the three founding families. It has a current student population of 350 students. The majority of students are Mexican nationals but the school has a varying degree of international families that include Canadians, Americans, Australians, Japanese, French, Venezuelan and other Latin nationalities. The increased diversity is a result of rising enrollment rates (15% in the last two years) and international accreditation with both AdvancED and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. We are registered with the Secretaría de Educación Pública in all sections and we are currently a candidate school with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.

Our school is proud to offer the vanguard education in Los Cabos to students from all nationalities, religions, cultures and socio-economic standing. Our school provides students with a safe and caring learning environment supported by trained and certified staff from multiple nationalities. In addition to our bilingual curriculum we offer many support services including certified and licensed psychologists, a mentoring program, Career and College Counseling, a Nutrition Program recognized by AdvancED as an outstanding practice, Afternoon Academic Academies, Afternoon Sports Program, The Camino Language Acquisition Support Program, Para academic Workshops and the IB Diploma CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) program.

For more information on these programs and services please consult our curriculum or programs pages.

A message from the Director:

Dear Community of Colegio El Camino,

As you know we have begun a very exciting new stage of growth in Colegio El Camino. During 2011-2013 school year the Parents Committee and the School Board identified that our beloved school needed to evolve towards a more global and skills based learning approach and keep us as the vanguard school in Baja. El Camino is looking to challenge and compete with schools on a national and international level.

There have been several systematic and infrastructure changes as a result. We have sought accreditation with the International Baccalaureate Organization ( and the AdvanceED organization for quality schools ( and have been granted the lofty status as an IB WORLD SCHOOL for the Diploma Program (High School) while also achieving candidate status for the IB Primary Years Program. We received our certification with AdvancED SACS CASI as a quality school and we are applying for membership with the Association of American Schools in Mexico (ASOMEX) this school year.

These will ensure we are both part of a global resource center and have the systems and processes to continually improve. This is a community wide effort that will require help and cooperation from every member of the El Camino´s community. We are underway, and with everyone´s participation we re on a voyage to our shared future!

The first step of our evolution was to decide that we wanted to improve, then to set our sight on where we wanted to go. To this end we sought to re-affirm a joint mission and vision for El Camino. Representatives from all areas of the community (teachers, parents, students, board members) reviewed, analyzed and revised our school Mission as follows:

“Our mission is to develop honorable, inquiring and caring life-long learners with intercultural understanding and respect for others who, through creativity and rigorous curriculum, become passionate leaders and participants in a global community.”

We have implemented the full use of Sistema Uno including the use of iPads. We have diversified our athletics program and extracurricular activities. We have begun renovation of our facilities to create a space for students fondly named the “Student Union”. We have formed a student council and spirit committee to contribute to positive change and give our students a voice and an opportunity to affirm themselves as masters of their destiny.

All of this has given Colegio El Camino renewed purpose and direction in our evolution towards a better learning community.
Heath Sparrow,

General Director
