Dear Volunteer Parents,

The inherent value of volunteers cannot be debated. One of the things that makes Colegio Camino special is that there are people like yourself who are willing to give their time and energy to volunteer for our children’s sake.

Thank you to each of you parents who help create a wonderful environment at Colegio el Camino. The hours donated are given from the heart and they are performed with enthusiasm. Together we are dedicated and determined to make Colegio el Camino the best school that it can be.

As you volunteer, please remember that you are truly appreciated even when we do not see you in action or we forget to stop and tell you. You are a very important part of our school community. Additionally, the children are also very proud when they see their parents involved and helping at their school. Thank you so much for all that you do.

Sincerely,
Parent Society Board

Colegio El Camino Volunteer Parents Guidelines

  • Work as a team with parents and teachers.
  • You are the main contact between teacher and parents for events, activities or any important information that needs to be addressed.
  • Recruiting and organizing volunteers for any activity your teacher may require, such as reading, cooking, crafts and celebrations.
  • Volunteer parents are required to use the assigned Colegio Camino email account for the grade they represent.
  • It is a requirement to attend the meetings, or have the second volunteer attend, ideally both attend, failing to do so may result in being replaced.
  • As a volunteer parent, you are required to participate as a volunteer in at least one community activity during the year.
  • There will be a scheduled meeting that you should attend with your teachers to talk about the year activities.
  • Organize a meet and greet with parents of your classroom (can be virtual due to pandemic) to present yourself and communicate important information about the upcoming school year.
  • Encourage parents to pay a voluntary fee of $TBD pesos per family for the parent society.
  • Volunteer Parents are expected to set up a classroom parent chat using the the class list and information provided by the parent society board.
  • Volunteer Parents are also expected to set up a broadcast list on WhatsApp and follow instructions on how to do so and include all parents who desire to participate.
  • As parents, and role models for our children, the content and dialogue affects the climate of the classroom and the school. Please refrain from resolving school issues, imparting personal opinions and posting harmful content.
  • The class chats are for the sole purpose of providing important information specific to each grade as with any school related concern please contact the teacher(s), counselor and or administrator(s).
  • Any parent may opt out of classroom chats and still receive 100% of the classroom information.
  • Teachers are not to be included in the classroom chat, all communication between teachers and volunteer parents will be done through email, schoology or other approved platforms.
  • No selling or promoting business ventures, charity events or anything that does not pertain to Colegio Camino activities or events.
  • No personal chats between parents in the classroom chat, i.e. for parties please create a new group/chat.
  • You as a Volunteer Parent are the monitor for the group and will be responsible for following the guidelines, you must work as a team with the other homeroom parents.

Guidelines for Colegio Camino parent WhatsApp chats:

  • The class WhatsApp group is set up by the Parents Society with the class representative (vocal) as administrator.
  • These groups are intended as a convenient way to distribute important school information to parents quickly and efficiently and for parents to communicate easily with each other regarding class matters, e.g. homework.
  • It is not necessary to respond to every post unless it is requested (e.g. RSVP, request for volunteers.)
  • If your message is not relevant to the majority of group members, please consider if it is more appropriate to reply by way of a personal message. In the event of too many messages being posted that are only relevant to a minority of group members the group administrator may request the conversation be continued outside the group.
  • Please respect the time you post. Early in the morning, late at night and during school holidays are discouraged whenever possible.
  • The group should not be used to post private or confidential messages or express personal opinions or gossip. Any opinions expressed are the opinions of individual members and may not be representative of the whole group. Group administrators are not responsible for any comments posted by individual members of the group.
  • The group should not be used to ask about assignments or homework. Questions about homework and assignments should be communicated directly to teachers.
  • Inappropriate posts include - posting promotions, using inappropriate language, personal attacks or insulting messages, bullying of any member, voicing grievances with the school or with individual members of the group.
  • For individual concerns, please raise these directly with the parent concerned, teacher or, where necessary, Coordinators or Directors through email or Schoology.
  • Please do not use the group to discuss non-school related issues.
  • The group administrator has the responsibility to warn any chat member for inappropriate use. Inappropriate use will be reported to the Parent Society Presidency and General Director, who reserve the right to restrict admission, remove or ban a chat member who ignores these rules. These rules are aligned with CEC School regulations and policies regarding communication and use of social media.
  • By accepting a request to join the group participants agree to these group rules. Please note, by accepting the request to join, you are sharing your phone number with other parents within your child’s class. Once you join, you always have the option to leave the group.

WhatsApp Broadcast List

With the broadcast list feature in WhatsApp, you can send a message to all the parents at once and can repeatedly send a broadcast message to all parents in your group without having to select them each time. Broadcast lists are not like a group chat. Broadcast lists are a one-to-many kind of communication. Each of the parents on the list will receive the message individually. Broadcast lists are the most efficient way to communicate official school informacion like school announcements, invitations to events, important changes or requests from the school.

Note: Only contacts who have added you to their phone's address book will receive your broadcast message. If a parent is not receiving your broadcast messages, check to make sure they’ve added you to their address book or saved you in their contacts.

As the group volunteer, please follow these steps:

Create a broadcast list

  1. Receive list of students and parents for the grade you are volunteering for.
  2. Create and save contact information for each parent.
  3. If there is a new parent you do not know or who may not have you saved as a contact in their phone, contact them and ask if they want to be included in the group chat and broadcast list. (Explain the difference as needed).
  4. If they want to be part of the broadcast list, explain that they must add and save you as a contact in order to participate.
  5. Create the broadcast list. Send a message announcement and Confirm that each parent received it.
  6. Create the official grade group chat and send the invitation to join the chat through the broadcast list.
  7. Ensure that each parent who wants to participate is included.
  8. Send the school group chat guidelines to the group so everyone can read and understand.
  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap Broadcast Lists at the top of the Chats screen.
  3. Tap New List at the bottom of the Broadcast Lists screen.
  4. Tap New List at the bottom of the Broadcast Lists screen.
  5. Tap Create.
  6. This will create a new broadcast list. When you send a message to the broadcast list, it’ll be sent to all recipients in the list who have your number saved in their phones’ address book. Recipients will receive the message as a normal message. When they reply, it’ll appear as a normal message in your Chats screen. Their reply will not be sent to other recipients in the broadcast list.
