April 13

BCS Community Alliance

All of us have had our lives altered over the past few weeks due to the unfolding COVID19 crisis and many are wondering what can be done to help.  We have seen common patterns emerge in each country affected and Mexico looks to be following a similar trajectory.  The expectation is the virus will have its greatest impact in the month of April and the country is already undergoing a significant shutdown.  Coupled with the economic impact of many residents losing their jobs and not having the funds or opportunity to prepare for an extended lockdown, the effects on the people of this community could be overwhelming for some.  We know and care about many of the people who will be negatively impacted, and we have an opportunity to help them and their families.

What you can do…

Colegio El Camino, Los Cabos Children’s Foundation along with several other local foundations and businesses have formed the Baja California Sur Community Alliance to help maintain stability in Los Cabos and Baja California Sur through this difficult time.  We appreciate any financial or other support to accomplish the following:

  • Purchase and distribute protective medical gear to first responders and others vital to maintaining operations of the Los Cabos community; medical staff, firefighters, police officers, gas station attendants, grocery store stockers, cashiers, sanitation workers, etc. We are working with State and Local authorities, the Red Cross, and local hospitals to assess needs while using our network and purchasing power to procure the needed supplies.
  • Purchase and distribute food and necessary supplies in coordination with state and local governments.  These activities include supporting local community kitchens and distribution points.

Through this network of collaborators, including foundations, businesses, local and state governments, and several Los Cabos community members, we are in a commanding position to help.  250k has already been raised from a combination of community members and our community partners.  A private donor, through the International Community Foundation, has also offered a 2:1 match up to 500k towards purchasing and distributing food, which will result in $1 million for families of Baja California Sur.  Now is the time we can truly make a difference in the Los Cabos community and the more involvement we have, the more support we will be able to provide to lessen the impact.
