IB Primary Years Programme
At the beginning of each unit of inquiry I wonder how we can make life a mission of the International Baccalaureate in our school, our teachers and especially in the lives of students.
Clearly, the units of inquiry are an opportunity for children to reflect on common problems we face today; also it becomes a space for personal and social questions on how to improve our living conditions, but mostly are aimed at awakening children in the transforming actions that help them build a better and more peaceful world.
It is in this context that the statement of the International Baccalaureate is present in the life of our school community, when our inquisitive spirit just with the boundaries of geographic areas and learn to share with other schools who work with our same ideals.
This time, the fifth graders had the opportunity to talk with Maria Ines Mayaudon, PYP Coordinator of the John XXIII Educational Center of Valencia, Venezuela, on how government decisions affect the lives of people.
Maria Ines was patient to listen and respond to the concerns of our students, who were interested in understanding the reality of a country that for many years has maintained a system of government for some fair and equal citizens.
We had the opportunity to see our students them empathize and understand how there are governments that deviate from the ideals and end up making decisions affecting the lives of people.
We are pleased with the bonds of brotherhood that we are creating with other IB schools in the world, and are confident that this is the beginning of the great adventures we have left to live.
IB DP Diploma Programme
At Camino, every student’s education is at the center of all that we do. Because we share every parent’s commitment to the success of his or her child, we’ve created this page to help parents understand, and to make the most of, the programs we offer in partnership with IB World Schools.
There is now an exclusive website for parents click here to visit the site.
IBDP and CAS Trip to La Sierra
Students from 11th and 12th grades finally made the hike after the trip was cancelled back in December due to weather conditions. It was right after coming back from winter holidays and all the students were full of energy. Of course by the end of the day everyone was tired and a little sore.
Diploma Candidates Internal Evaluation Reports
During January and February our candidates to Diploma will be finalizing their internal evaluation projects, which will be then send over to the judges in different parts of the world. Parents, we recommend you stay informed of this process!
Uniforms
We are proud of our students who always respect he dress code
Our uniform has distinctive characteristics developed by visionaries. What are the reasons for this?
1. By wearing the same clothes we allow ourselves and other to not judge people by what they wear. It is common for people to relate a socio economic status by wearing designer clothing. The use of a uniform represents the belief that in our school such difference does not exist.
2. Following rules and discipline by abiding to the agreement signed by parents and students at the beginning of the school year. Maintaining discipline is directly related to compliance with established agreements. The formation of our students as citizens and reinforcing the concept of organized and law-abiding civil society is a key point in the ideology of our institution.
Upcoming events: February 12th, Valentine’s Day
Psychology
Learning in Family workshop
In the month of January we had the pleasure of having the presence of Carlos Serrano, Neuro Programmer; who shared with us a pleasant chat about “The Virtues of the Warrior”, emphasizing the virtuous warrior should not only look forward. Sometimes you need to stop, and go slowly, turning his gaze 360 degrees and see if someone needs his valuable assistance, he also should be aware of their beliefs because they are the ones that affect their results, rather than its necessities.
We also want to thank all the parents who attended this event which was intended for Elementary school but we also had the presence of parents from kindergarten and middle school.
MAP and CPAA Evaluations
On January 21st we presented the CPAA results for grades 1st and 2nd and MAP results for grades 3rd to 6th, and on the 27th for middle and high school, if you have not received the results yet you can visit the Psychology office from 2:00 to 2:30 pm.

Reading is one of the simple, profound pleasures of life. “Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood,” says John Green, popular Young Adult author. But what happens when you are faced with a book that is challenging or difficult. Knowing how to read a difficult book is an important skill.
There are some simple techniques to use when the content seems daunting. Create an environment for concentration. That will vary according to your personal requirements for comfort and focus. Always have a dictionary ready for words that are unfamiliar. If there are references or allusions to things you don’t know, look them up. (Search engines are useful for this). Before you begin, read the table of contents thoroughly. It will give you a map of where the book is going. The introduction will often give you a general idea of the material.
Don’t be discouraged. Read through the entire book, even if you feel you are skimming. Read to get a sense of what the book is about and what big ideas are presented. Take a break if necessary, but keep it short so that you do return.
If you can, annotate questions and ideas that occur while you are reading. Mark sections or passages that you don’t understand so that you can review them later.
Finally, re-read the book. Fill in the gaps and the unanswered questions. If you need help, discuss the book with friends or with a teacher.
And remember that reading for knowledge involves more than the intake of information. Mortimer Adler writes “there is a sense in which we …are inundated with facts to the detriment of understanding. One of the reasons for this situation is that … much of the media … is so designed as to make thinking seem unnecessary.” Think about what you have read and explore the ideas that come from your newfound knowledge. For a more in-depth discussion on how to read a book, visit this blog post at Farnham Street.
(Mortimer J. Adler was an American philosopher, educator, editor, and advocate of general education by study of the great writings of the Western world.)
