General Director
Dear Camino Parent/Guardian
Colegio El Camino is engaged in an ongoing continuous improvement process, of which all stakeholders are a part. We are sending you this invitation to participate in our online survey between the dates of today and June 28th, 2017 as one method of reaching all stakeholders.
Surveys are a means to systematically engage all our stakeholders in a two-way communication. They provide school leaders and teachers a lens into the thinking and perceptions of our stakeholders. Careful analysis of the results enriches understanding of areas of strength and effectiveness as well as those areas that possibly need improvement. The survey results will enable our school leaders to measure stakeholders’ attitudes and help target improvement strategies focused on student achievement as well as school and district effectiveness. Taking the survey will also help stakeholders understand the AdvancED Standards for Quality Schools and provide a means for learning about what a parent, student or staff member should be looking for in a high quality school system.
Your cooperation and support in completing this short survey will be greatly appreciated.
The survey is in English or Spanish, just click here.

IB PYP
Closing: Units of Inquiry
Last April 7th we made our first closure of inquiry unit for all groups of the Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Each unit of inquiry is developed within five weeks. During this time students have an opportunity to explore the topic that is developed in the central idea. Here we share a brief summary of the trans-disciplinary issues presented in each grade:
K1 – How the world works: in this unit the students studied some phenomena of the environment such as day and night, the seasons of the year and the life cycle of living beings.
K2 – How we share the planet: in this unit students reflected on how we can take care of the natural resources from our environment. During the development of the unit, students took care of some plants and discussed how living beings share those resources to live.
K3 – How the world works: In this unit the students observed the change that the technological advances have suffered through time, and they reflected on the way in which the human being makes use of them.
1st – How we express ourselves: In this unit the students inquired about the human being’s need to communicate and that in addition to oral language and writing, uses other resources to communicate.
2nd – How the world works: In this unit the students reflected on the way in which the communities in the world are organized. Identifying that the geographical environment is essential to achieve the development of economic activities.
3rd – How we organize ourselves: In this unit the students identified economic activities around the world, they discovered that the sources of work allow the development of people and societies. At the end, it was fundamental to reflect on our role as consumers.
4th – How we organize ourselves: In this unit the students understood that the agreements of coexistence are fundamental for the operation of a society. The learning experiences offered the opportunity to work as a team and learn to live together.
5th – How we express ourselves: In this unit the students made a trip on the history of art and its various manifestations. These learning experiences provided the opportunity to relate how historical and social events are the product of artistic manifestations throughout history.
6th – How we share the planet: In this unit students understood that in society the way of thinking and life should not be an obstacle to a peaceful coexistence. Teachers provided an opportunity for students to reflect on current problems such as discrimination and bullying.
We want to thank all parents who joined us for this learning experience; we hope to receive your continuous support in the following Primary Years Programme events.

Informational field trip meetings for parents
Thank you to each and every teacher and staff member who helped organize and chapperone our educational field trips that took place between June 7th and 10th. They were a huge success.
12th Grade PLANEA exams
12th Grade students presented the PLANEA 2017 exam on April 5th and 6th. From now on these evaluations will take place every 4 years. We hope to receive satisfactory results that will place us among the best of the State of B.C.S.
Technology
During the second week of May we replaced the old copper Internet wiring for optic fiber, improving significantly the data flow by 3 times of what we used to have. In Cabo San Lucas this is by far the best option for high speed Internet connection that allows multiple devices at once without reducing quality and speed.
In Computing; Bandwith is known as the amount of data that can be sent and received within a communication and it is measured in bits per second.
To avoid the loss of Bandwith it is recommended that there are no walls or obstacles between devices as they may interfere and weaken the signal; It is also recommended that when opening an application on the Internet you close it immediately when you finish using it, while it is open (even in the background or in your system tray) it consumes bandwidth, many times without you knowing it’s operating.
Psychology
Self-reflection for children
Perhaps a problem may arise with a friend or your child receives a poor grade in school, after having studied hard for a subject. How does your child react? Do they become angry, or do they undermine the situation? Or do they think hard about what happened, wondering if their actions affected the results, and what could they have done differently to have achieved success?
The second reaction is what we call self-reflection or introspection. It is a great ability for all children to work on. It is also of great help to children who have learning and attention problems so that they obtain better results both academically and socially.
Self-reflection might seem like something that belongs to the domain of adults, to think deeper about problems, think creatively about ideas in order to have better results. However, self-reflection is also very important for children, even those in the early stages of life.
As your children continue to grow, they will face many challenges both in school and in life. We hope that as they grow so does the way they see things, think, react and become responsible for their own actions.
Children may experience frustration at school and in many other places. This could cause them to feel there is nothing they can do to improve. Self-reflection helps your children stop doing the same things over and over again, without achieving any success.
The impact of self-reflection
Self-reflection favors success in children’s lives whether in unexpected or negative situations, or in favorable situations, when children can reflect on what they are doing well.
Finding different ways to face challenges and working through them, as well as recognizing their success is a powerful way to build and foster self-esteem in children and the development of emotional skills.
