Important SEP Announcement Regarding Back to School

Good Afternoon Parents and Students of Colegio El Camino.

Thank you students for your extraordinary effort using our online learning platform and thank you parents for providing support.  The School Board has commended us on our efforts and asked me to share the pride they have in the staff, students and parents for our solidarity and continued learning during this difficult time.

As you may well know, the Ministry of Education (SEP) announced yesterday the probable return to face to face classes on June 1st, and for those municipalities without cases of COVID-19 return for May 17th. (This currently is not our case) SEP also mentioned extending the school year until July 17th. This announcement does not distinguish public schools who are just beginning online learning from private schools like ourselves who have continued to deliver our program online since face to face classes were suspended. We have not yet made a decision whether we will resume face-to-face classes; however we will continue providing on-line learning through the end of the school year.

Please note the following;

  1. We are in communication with the SEP supervisors in our zone demonstrating the evidence of our ongoing program.
  1. We are monitoring the State Government and State SEP communication in regards to this announcement and will keep you informed as developments occur.
  1. We are in contact with the Federation of Private Schools of BCS regarding meeting the current school calendar with our online program and other topics.
  1. We will continue to offer the Camino Online Learning Program (COLP) until June 1st or beyond if required.
  1. We will continue our proposed programs under the current school calendar including respecting all mandatory holidays and SEP Professional Development days.
  1. We have the evidence of the COLP demonstrating our community´s commitment to the educational program and we will continue planning for Graduation Ceremonies on July 1st be it in person or online.
  1. We will continue preparing to carry out all other essential activities like graduation ceremonies and the PYP exposition online if the quarantine extends beyond those dates.
  1. In the event the state government authorities, the civil protection authority and the medical experts determine it is safe to go back to face to face classes in Los Cabos on June 1st we will have a rigid contingency prevention plan in place.
  1. If the scenario listed above in point 8 occurs, we will support parents who decide to continue with the Camino Online Learning Plan rather than face to face classes.

We understand how the uncertainty of this ever evolving situation and the governments’ decisions can be stressful for our community. Our school leadership and school board will continue to respond in the best interests of the entire CEC community and keep you informed in a timely manner.

Additionally , please continue, to direct your inquiries regarding school decisions and actions to our dedicated school leadership team. Please allow our hardworking teaching staff to continue to focus on providing your children our IB educational programs as they simultaneously learn and adapt in this unprecedented time.

If we continue to work together we will be stronger and braver in the face of everything that comes our way. As Martin Luther King said,

“We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear”
