Dear 3rd grade to 11th grade parents
During October of your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
MAP tests are unique in that they are adaptive tests your child takes on a computer in school. That means that the test becomes more difficult as your child answers more questions correctly. When your child incorrectly answers a question, the test becomes easier. Therefore, your child takes a test specifically created for his or her learning level.
As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the next few weeks, your child will spend a total of about 3 hours completing these tests. Remind them that this is not a pass or fail test but it is very important they do their very best as to precisely determine their current reading, writing and mathematics levels.
Each school year, students in grades 3 to 11 take the tests in October and again in March. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth and tips on how to support their ongoing achievement.
If you would like more information on MAP including its purpose, benefits. and how we will use the information obtained to promote your child’s learning please consult the link or download the PDF Parent Toolkit on the SCHOOLOGY CALENDAR.
We are truly excited to provide this assessment that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
