Colegio El Camino was created in the 80`s, based on the growing need for education in Los Cabos, business owners that arrived to Cabo demanded high level education for their children in a controlled environment as opposed to public school system, which at the time were already over populated.
It was the Diaz Rivera, Parr and Coppola Families that join efforts to create a Nonprofit Organization, which was in charge of building the very first classroom.
Colegio El Camino as a Nonprofit Organization offers the advantage to re.invest the money that comes into the school from tuition, allowing for the school´s self-sufficiency. All of this with the mere vision of enabling any future program or project for the school, such as: recreational courts, classrooms, etc.
My personal experience as a proud parent and as a member of the Board of Directors is that the administrative board has been very grateful. Dealing and being part of a board that manages everything involving long term projects and strategies to continue developing the school into a bigger and better organization is always a great way to get involved in the development of the institution.
Colegio El Camino has been recently accredited as IB School for High School, which is great news, aside of this certification there are other upcoming such as the American School and the IB certification for all levels of education.

Please tell us a little bit about the history of Colegio El Camino.
It all started due to the educational level existing back then (1983), that was when along with other parents, we got together to organize and create Colegio El Camino, Coppola and Parr families agreed with these idea and the objective to contribute to educational growth in Los Cabos.
Everybody joined forces, my father donated the land, architects donated the project, families donated material for construction, and I traveled to Guadalajara, México, to gather the teaching staff. When we flew in the Staff some of the hotels provided complimentary accommodations for them.
Every effort we have made ever since, has been always team work, and thanks to that we are able to grow year after year.
Our main focus to have the highest level possible of education has kept us as a constant leader in our community. Just like our shield says, our objectives are Honor, Academics and Sports. Physical health allows for a clear mind, honor is the basics of human foundations and academics focused in maintaining higher educational standards. Carmen Echeveste former Principal of the School gave her best with hard work to provide with magnificent methods of teaching.
The moment my son applied for universities in the US, and got accepted to three different institutions was a great proof of the educational level we can provide our students.
As a member of the BOD we implement efforts on a daily basis to maintain ourselves as a top leader in our community.

Simply, the IB program. No other school in Baja has achieved this accreditation. This speaks of strong leadership, an unwavering commitment to excellence and an institution that avoids complacency and seeks continued improvement. El Camino provides a broad, internationally focused, forward-looking curricula based on the development of critical thinking, inquiry, and problem solving. Students develop not only solid basic skills and knowledge, but also conceptual understanding and high-level analytical skills. The world is changing rapidly, and El Camino continues to evolve and develop to provide the best possible educational experience preparing our children to lead happy, fulfilled, and successful lives in a future that is increasingly complex, competitive, and international.
My daughters Ava (8th grade) and Alexandra (5th grade) have been students at Colegio el Camino since kindergarten. In this time, I have watched them learn and grow in a safe and joyful environment that encourages academic excellence, creativity, courage, and citizenship. They have formed nourishing friendships and meaningful relationships with their teachers. I have seen them embrace responsibility and do their best to help others. They enjoy going to school and I enjoy watching them become confident engaged young ladies capable of holding their own in philosophical family debates using critical thinking that would make Socrates proud. Most importantly, my daughters are happy and the IB program gives them the opportunity to be a part of a world-wide network of inspiring and courageous individuals with the tools they need to make a positive impact on the world.
There is no such thing as a one size fits all school. Do some research into the programs we offer and set up a meeting so we can answer any questions you might have to determine if El Camino is the right fit for your family. Visit us to see for yourself why Colegio el Camino an extraordinary place to grow and learn.
Colegio el Camino is the best school in Cabo because of all the people who make up its community, because it strives to be the best in academia and has proven itself adaptable and strong. It helps the local community and provides a friendly family atmosphere whilst looking at the global picture.
As I have moved through the school I have been a teacher, a parent and a board member. This has shown me how the school works at every level and gives me a unique perspective. I appreciate how the system works as a whole and look forward to continuing to participate in its ongoing progress.
El Camino students come away with a sense of world mindedness, strength, adaptability, academic excellence and a true sense of community. The school is constantly in a process of development and shows innovation and the ability to adapt at every turn. The IB program and the small personalized classes make it an excellent choice.

When our children were in kindergarten, my wife Diana and I began searching for options for schools in Cabo San Lucas. We quickly narrowed our search to a few options and El Camino was the clear choice! The IB learner profile and the program offered what we felt was far superior to any other education system being offered. Being a multicultural family, we felt it was important our children receive a well-rounded, bilingual education. Points from the IB profile such as critical thinking, problem solving among others, we felt would fully prepare and provide our sons with the best opportunity to achieve any advanced education or higher learning goals they may strive to achieve. Now, 7 years on, with our 3 children at CEC we can see we made the right choice!
As part of the CEC community, we felt welcomed by parents, teachers, and staff from the moment we arrived. As parents, along with our children, we have created lifelong friendships in the community. Some friendships were born from meeting at sports events, while others through academic projects and gatherings. The atmosphere is always friendly and warm, and it is comfortable, which we feel is an important factor given the amount of time you spend with your children at the school.
I do tell and will continue to tell anyone considering Colegio El Camino to take a very close look at the IB program and learner profile. It far surpasses anything else in Los Cabos and the staff and teachers are warm, caring and there is a true community waiting to welcome you. I have seen how both Mexican families and foreign ex-pat families from all over the world have been welcomed and become part of the community, which is something I find truly special. In addition to the incredible education which your child will receive, creating friendships and great memories is an experience families cherish forever!
Colegio el Camino has embedded in its core to achieve the highest education and level of excellency that future generations need to make the community, the country and the world a better place, the IB program guides not only the students but the teacher and parents to have the same mindset, evolve constantly and develop skills for a better future in the competitive world we live in.
My kid has been in El Camino since Kindergarten, he is now in middle school and it amazes me every day to see the level of critical thinking, maturity and solidarity that he has developed thanks to the IB education, he loves going to school and has a strong sense of community, the school has a wide variety of nationalities that makes our kids aware of the global world we live in, the exposure to other cultures makes them respectful individuals with an inclusive and open mind.
Colegio El Camino is a nonprofit, so we are who make the school, regardless of the location or founding families, students and parents are expected to work hard to better the school and uphold its reputation.
If you are looking for a school from k-12 where your kids can thrive, be part of a multicultural student body and have the best opportunities for university in Mexico or any part of the world this is the place for you, Colegio El Camino its known for its high academic rigor but also for the highest university acceptance and 100% graduate rate.

In my opinion, what makes Colegio El Camino the best school in Cabo is that we have a concept of education without cultural limitations. We are a secular school and totally open to receiving students and families from any culture. That makes us open, inclusive and provides our students with a global education.
My experience at school as a parent of three students has been varied. First of all, I have seen a very positive evolution in the 12 years within the community. The school has improved day by day in the structure, in the teaching, in the afternoon academies and in the quality of the materials provided. In short, my experience is that children not only learn the basic subjects, but also have life knowledge for future life outside the classroom. Tolerance, respect, vision are points that as a father, I like to see in my children.
I would tell you that you are in the right place if you want to have children with critical thinking, tolerant of any culture and thought and with a good academic level in areas that, as an adult, will be used daily for their activities. It is a good environment that preserves the family feel of a small, united community.
